Zcash private transaction confirmation times will be reduced to 200 milliseconds.

  • The Zakura Common team has developed software for lightning-fast processing of confidential transactions on the network. Zcash.
  • Vizor Wallet already uses the new library stack to confirm transactions in 200 milliseconds.

Zcash blockchain developers have released a new set of cryptographic tools that can reduce the time it takes for a wallet to create a private transaction from three seconds to less than 200 milliseconds.

The software, called Zakura Common , is developed by the Zakura team, which created a new Zcash node that launched in July as part of a broader initiative to improve the speed of the blockchain for everyday payments.

Zcash's private transactions hide the sender, recipient, and amount of the transfer. To prove that the hidden transaction complies with the network's rules, the user's wallet must perform a significant amount of cryptographic work before the payment is processed.

This calculation slows down Zcash transactions , but according to Zakura developers, new improvements make this step more than 14 times faster on mobile devices and more than 5 times faster on desktop computers. Hashing is 21 times faster, and nodes verifying private transactions are 4-8 times faster.

Secure wallets using Zakura Common and full nodes like Zakura itself will benefit from this, Zcash co-founder Sean Bowe noted in a social media post.

These changes don't require an update to the Zcash network itself . Wallet developers can use existing open-source libraries. Meanwhile, Zakura has already migrated to the new stack in version 1.3.0, and Vizor Wallet is one of the first to adopt it.

According to the Zakura team, using the new libraries should allow wallets to sync faster, while full nodes benefit from faster transaction verification and fewer orphaned blocks. The software can already handle the 25-second block generation intervals planned for the next major Zcash upgrade, NU7.
