The Bitcoin Red Team, a team of security researchers, has discovered nearly 5,000 potential vulnerabilities in the Bitcoin ecosystem. The group of 16 volunteers identified the issues through a rapid analysis of open-source projects using AI.
"On average, there is about one critical exploit per hour per person," wrote one Bitcoin Red Team member, known by the nickname Calle.
According to his data, in the first 29 hours of work, the team discovered 4962 potential vulnerabilities in 390 projects. Of these, 720 are considered critical or high-risk. At the time of writing, the specialists had managed to reproduce only 21,4% of the results.

Work on the express analysis of projects in the Bitcoin ecosystem began shortly after the massive attacks on the Coldcard hardware wallet from the Canadian developer Coinkite, which Reported redaction Happy Coin NewsGalaxy Research estimates that the potential damage from device hacks could reach 2,055 BTC, equivalent to approximately $100 million.
All of these attacks were caused by an ongoing issue with seed phrases generated on Coinkite devices running Coldcard Mk3, Mk4, Mk5, and Coldcard Q firmware. Coinkite later released emergency firmware updates for all affected models and announced that it had wiped the remaining vulnerable devices.
