- Donald Trump believes Bitcoin extremely important for the United States, so he is unhappy with the delay in passing the CLARITY Act.
- He believes it is strategically correct to maintain global leadership in the crypto industry and the AI sector.
While the crypto community expresses frustration over delays in the passage of the CLARITY Act , a US bill that would establish clear regulations for the cryptocurrency industry, US President Donald Trump explained why he supports Bitcoin (BTC).
In an interview with Punchbowl, Trump said the leading cryptocurrency is important as more and more people use Bitcoin as a form of payment.
Trump emphasized the importance of cryptocurrencies to national strategy and compared them to artificial intelligence. Both sectors, he said, have the potential to have a profound impact on the future global economy.
Trump added that global competitors, referring to China, could benefit from the US's lag in cryptocurrency innovation. He argued that the US needs to maintain its dominance in digital assets, surpassing several industry leaders.
He also noted that the widespread use of Bitcoin as a means of payment has reduced pressure on the US dollar.
Cryptocurrency is very important. I increasingly see people paying with Bitcoin, and, you know, they don't even think about cash anymore... All this significantly reduces the pressure on our dollar. This is good for our country.
Trump added that the United States is ahead of China in the mass adoption of Bitcoin and artificial intelligence (AI), which is why he is disappointed with the Senate's delay in passing the CLARITY Act.
