- David Sachs called for Anthropic's IPO to be paused until AI safety claims are investigated.
- A former Anthropic researcher has warned that AI labs are moving too quickly toward creating superintelligence.
Renowned technology and investment expert David Sachs has criticized Anthropic's plans for an initial public offering (IPO) with a projected valuation of nearly $2 trillion. Sachs believes the IPO should be postponed until an investigation into claims about artificial intelligence safety made by former Anthropic employee Jacob Coxon is completed.

Coxon, who also previously worked at OpenAI, left the company and publicly stated that AI developers are acting irresponsibly in their rush to create self-improving superintelligence. He warned that the development of advanced systems could spiral out of control and lead to catastrophic consequences, including the threat of human extinction by the end of the decade.
Coxon's words were echoed by other researchers, including Anthropic researcher Evan Hubinger, who estimated the likelihood of fatal consequences from AI at over 10% within the next 10 years. In light of these statements, US lawmakers, both Democrats and Republicans, are calling for stricter safety precautions and regulation of the industry.
It turns out that Anthropic, which plans to begin marketing its IPO in mid-October, is now forced to simultaneously prove to investors the validity of its high valuation and its ability to manage the risks associated with the development of powerful AI systems.
