Vitalik ButerinVitalik Buterin (Vitalik Buterin) - Canadian-Russian programmer, co-founder and former editor of the print magazine Bitcoin Magazine, co-founder of the Ethereum project.

Born January 31, 1994 in Kolomna, Russia. At the age of six he moved to Canada with his parents. Since 2017 he has lived in Singapore.

While studying at school, Vitalik discovered his abilities in mathematics, programming and economics. He could add three-digit numbers twice as fast as his peers. At the age of seventeen, he became interested in Bitcoin and at the same time became a co-founder of Bitcoin Magazine, which became the first major print publication on this topic.

In 2012 he received a bronze medal in the International Olympiad in Informatics. In 2013, on a trip to Europe, he met developers who shared his enthusiasm for coding. Later he returned to Toronto and wrote a white paper describing Ethereum.

In 2014, Buterin, while a student at the University of Waterloo, received a Thiel grant in the amount of $100.000, after which he dropped out and began working on Ethereum.

While chatting about Bitcoin on a forum, Buterin came across a proposal. Five bitcoins (about $3.50) for an article about bitcoin. As a result, Buterin began writing for this site and published until the site closed.

In 2011, Vitalik received an offer to become a co-founder and lead author of Bitcoin Magazine. Later, Buterin also began to publish in other publications, including Bitcoin Weekly.

Since 2012, Bitcoin Magazine began to be published in print. The magazine was later purchased by the publishing house BTC Media, where Buterin continued to write until mid-2014. He also served on the editorial board of Ledger, a peer-reviewed academic journal that publishes articles on cryptocurrency and blockchain technology.

Buterin is the creator of the Ethereum system, a platform for creating decentralized online services based on the block chain, working on the basis of smart contracts.

The network was launched at the end of July 2015. Ethereum is implemented as a single decentralized virtual machine. Being an open source platform, Ethereum greatly simplifies the implementation of blockchain technology. Ethereum technology allows you to register any transactions with any assets based on a distributed database of blockchain-type contracts, without resorting to traditional legal procedures. This opportunity is competitive with the existing transaction registration system.

Other projects implemented by Vitalik based on open source code include Cryptokit, pybitcointools and btckeysplit. He has also contributed to the Bitcoin Python libraries as well as the cryptocurrency trading site Egora.
