July's disappointing results were largely due to several Coldcard hardware wallet exploits. According to Galaxy Digital, users lost over $130 million. The company's analysts identified and confirmed three Coldcard attacks, and they also detected a fourth wave, but have not yet been able to definitively confirm it. According to the hack tracker DefiLlama , hackers stole approximately $115 million from Coldcard owners.

July showed that even cold storage doesn't eliminate technological risks that could simultaneously put thousands of wallets at risk, CryptoRank stated .

However, the Coldcard attacks weren't the only notable events in July. Last month saw a $9 million hack of the DeFi protocol Bonzo Lend, a $2,6 million theft from the Cardano- based SecondFi wallet, a $24 million theft from the Arbitrum -based AFX exchange , and a $7,5 million theft through the Verus Ethereum Bridge.
